<p>I really have to say that at each and every event the displays that our bakers come with get more and more interesting and elaborate!</p>
<p>With this competition having the overall them of spring we have displays varying from &#8220;Spring Training&#8221; to gardens, easter eggs and hanging laundry.</p>
<p>Everyone did a fantastic job on both their cupcakes and displays.</p>
<p>Our overall winner was #5 Rachel Rivas, Best Frosting went to #8 Stacey Clare, favourite display wen to #11 Rosie Altomare and 2nd favourite display went to #1 Rachel Hoevenaars.</p>
<p>A special thank you to our volunteers who help us time and time again all for the love of cupcakes!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span style="font-size: xx-small;"><strong>History of King Cakes</strong></span></p>
<p>Epiphany, celebrated in European countries, marks the coming of the wise men who brought gifts to the Christ Child. Epiphany is also called Little Christmas on the Twelfth Night, and is celebrated twelve nights after Christmas. People from all of the world celebrate Epiphany by exchanging gifts and feasting. A very popular custom that is still celebrated is the making of the &#8220;King&#8217;s Cake&#8221; which represents the three kings who brought gifts. A plastic baby is baked inside the King Cake, and the tradition is whoever receives the baby in their piece of cake must buy the next King Cake or throw the next party. King Cakes are made of a cinnamon filled dough in the shape of a hollow circle. The cake is topped with a delicious glazed topping and then sprinkled with colored sugar. The three colors of the sugar are Purple (representing Justice), Green (representing Faith) and Gold (representing Power). Today the King Cakes are baked with a wide assortment of fillings inside the cake. King Cake is the preferred dessert and snack in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. Hundreds of thousands of King Cakes are eaten in New Orleans during the Carnival season. Many are shipped throughout the U.S. for those displaced New Orleanians longing for a taste of Mardi Gras. <p>Iron Cupcake is a cupcake challenge open to the public which has a similar concept to that of Iron Chef. A “secret ingredient” is announced and the competitors must somehow incorporate it into their cupcakes. Cupcakes will be made ahead of time and brought in a finished state to the competition. There will be points awarded on presentation, taste and creativity. Iron Cupcake was started in the US and is not only popular there but in Europe as well. We are the first to bring this exciting franchise to Canada! For our first challenge we will be limiting entries to the first 20. First come, first serve. The entry fee is $15 which you can pay in person at our bakery or by credit card over the phone. There will be a cover of $5 for non-contestantants – you get to sample and judge the cupcakes entered to pick the people’s chooice! Why is there a fee to register? Well, it tells us that you are serious about entering, there will be prizes awarded, refreshments and it just helps us cover the costs of hosting the event.</p>

<p>Feel free to bring props – within reason - to better tell your cupcake’s story. Please bring a small sign stating the content of your cupcake. **Also please note if it contains nuts**<br />

Please DO NOT put your name on the sign. The 4 dozen mini cupcakes will not be included in your display as they will be in a different area to give out for tasting, however, you may make extras to include in your display.</p>

Ballots will be collected and tabulated to determine the winners. The Iron Cupcake Champion will be determined by our judges and the runner up will be chosen by attendees.</p>
