Iron Cupcake Flowers

May 21st, 2010

On Sunday, May 16th we hosted our 3rd monthly Iron Cupcake with the secret ingredient Flowers. Even with the nice weather outside and the Gardner being closed we still managed to bring in just over 100 people. This event was great and I was impressed with the variety of flowers used. Everything from hibiscus and lilac to cherry blossoms, daisy, rose water and pansies were incorporated into some great looking and smelling cupcakes. The People’s choice runner up was #1 Christina Capobianco, People’s Choice winner was #12 Michelle Deperio, Runner up was #9 Alison Davey (March’s People’s Choice winner) and the overall winner was #10 Mari Moreshead. Great job to everyone! With the summer months approaching, people going away for long weekends and a busy wedding season at the shop we will be putting a hold on Iron Cupcake events until September. So, keep posted for details on our next event in a few months.

A Great Event

March 15th, 2010

Thank you to all of our Bakers and attendees for making our very first Iron Cupcake Toronto competition a great success!

Thank you also to our wonderful panel of judges; Susan Sampson from the Toronto Star, Lauren Wilson from blogTO.com , Tony Barone from George Brown College and Jamie Mistry from Amsterdam Brewery.

We would also like to acknowledge Thomas Allen & Son the publisher for Hello, Cupcake! and What’s New, Cupcake? for the donation of books as prizes for our bakers.

We also could not have pulled off this event without the help of our volunteers. Thanks again!

Congratulations to winner Brenda Robinson who made cupcake #15 “Erin Go Bragh” and to Allison Davey who won the People’s choice award for her cupcake #16 “Morning After St. Patty’s Day”.

I also wanted to give an Honourable Mention to Jaime Dobbs for her cupcake #9 “Eye Opener”.
